Walking with Jesus: A Lenten Invitation
Walk a mile, pray a mile, walk with Jesus from the wilderness to the cross
How to use: Each day, as you walk (or roll, stretch, or sit in prayer), use the daily focus. Pray aloud or silently, reflect, and lift up the needs of your community, the church, the world, and those who are sick. All movement counts—each mile, step, or breath is part of the journey. Families are encouraged to walk together.
Together, we are imagining a symbolic journey from Bismarck to Jerusalem, a distance of 6,368 miles. No one is asked to walk this alone. Instead, we walk it as a community. If our average weekly worship attendance—about 180 people—each offers one mile a day, we would reach Jerusalem together in about 36 days, carrying one another in prayer and communion the entire season of Lent.
This is not a challenge, a competition, or a test of endurance. It is an invitation—to prayer, to presence, and to walking with Jesus as he leads us through wilderness moments, toward healing, and ultimately to the cross.
Some days your walk may be long; other days it may be short. Some may walk outside, others inside. Some will roll, some will stroll, some will move slowly, and some will pray from a chair. All of it counts. What matters is not the distance covered, but the heart offered. Every intentional step, breath, or moment of prayer becomes part of the journey we share.
Families are encouraged to walk together—children, strollers, pauses, questions, and laughter included. Let your walk be a space for conversation, silence, or prayer. Let it be a reminder that Jesus walks with us, just as we are.
To help us stay connected, we have created a Facebook group for this Lenten journey. You are invited to share photos from your walks, moments of prayer, reflections along the way, or prayer requests. This is simply a space to encourage one another and to remember that we do not walk alone.
This Lent, we walk together—
not to rush toward Easter,
but to be present with Jesus along the way,
from the wilderness,
to the cross,
and toward the hope God is already unfolding among us.
