LAMP
December 2008
Have you been blessed by reading not only our Charity Advent devotional, but also the two booklets from LAMP? (If you have missed these, pick up a copy from the Information Kiosk and meditate on these well-written devotions during the weeks after Christmas).
”What is LAMP?” you may ask. It is the Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots. There are two divisions, US and Canadian, and Charity supports the latter with quarterly gifts from the 10% of all our offerings. LAMP is such a worthwhile ministry. Throughout the year, its staff and volunteers bring the Gospel, pastoral care, supplies and help to isolated Native and Inuit (Eskimo) communities in the far North. Many of these areas are accessible only by plane, boat or ice roads. The LAMP planes are fitted with either pontoons or skis, but flying in the weather conditions in that remote region is still hazardous.
That is where you come in. Will you add LAMP to your prayer list? Better still, go to www.lampministry.org and join the prayer team.
If you feel called, also consider going up to do VBS with a team of other LAMP volunteers. You can read about their stories in the devotional booklet. Some of these folks have gone to the same communities for twenty-four years! Imagine their joy of seeing the children they taught grow up and become Christian leaders in their own towns. God is at work!
Do you know someone who loves soccer? LAMP holds soccer camps during the summer as an outreach tool for middle school age and above. These youngsters are a particularly at-risk population, and they need the Good News – can you be one who brings it? (Romans 10:15)
